Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a fuel injection system carrying out stable fuel injection by effectively utilizing the good controllability of time-controlled fuel metering system so that the volume of fuel supply is reduced for decreasing the supply pressure of fuel, and by damping, at an early stage, fluctuations of supply pressure due to the valve opening of a solenoid valve. CONSTITUTION:A part of fuel from a first fuel supply pump 13, which is boosted by a second pressure supply pump 14 and is then regulated to a predetermined constant pressure by a pressure regulating valve 15, is supplied into a fuel injection pump chamber 6. This supply is made through a fuel supply pipe 20, a surge tank 11 connected with an accumulator 11, a feed pipe 21, a solenoid valve 10 whose valve opening time period is controlled by a controller 100 in response to engine speed and engine load, a balance orifice 17 eliminating irregularity among cylinders, a check valve 18, a feed pipe 19, a fuel passage 20 in an injection cylinder 3 and a metering valve 50. The supply pressure may be stabilized if the accumulator 12 is provided to the surge tank 10.
