Class 29 A cooling surface unit is formed from an outer shell of a reinforced resinated compound which is moulded to provide a flat cooling surface 7 surrounded by a hollow rim defined by inner side walls 8, an upper surface 9 and outer side walls 10 which extend to a level below that of the cooling surface 7, a refrigerant circulating unit 11 with inlet and outlet connections 12 and 13 being secured to the underside of the surface 7 and the shell filled with cork insulation sealed in place by a sealing layer 14. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 the height of the rear rim is greater than that of the front rim 16, sloping side walls 15 are provided and the tray slopes downwardly towards the front, a gutter 19 with an outlet 20 being included. The unit is also mounted on a hollow stand 18 which houses the compressor 21 for the refrigerant. The refrigerant circulating unit 11 may be of the form shown in Fig. 1 in which a metal plate 22 embossed to form a sinuous passageway 23 is secured to a metal plate 24 itself secured to the cooling surface 7, or as shown in Fig. 2 refrigerant is circulated through a sinuous pipe of circular cross-section enclosed in a box containing a eutectic freezing mixture. The rear wall of the tray may also be cooled as at 17 and in a third embodiment the cooling means comprises a sinuous pipe secured directly to the tray 7. The cork insulation may be in the form of blocks and the outer shell is preferably moulded from a synthetic resin reinforced with fibre glass.
