In a vehicle direction indicator switch of the self-cancelling type, a substantially U-shaped spring 11 secured at its intermediate part to an actuating arm 8, is located in one of three positions by the pair of projections 4a, while a cam 14 on the steering shaft 12 co-operates with a part 11<SP>b</SP> of the spring in order to return the switch to a central neutral position after the signalled turn has been made. Cam 14 does not come into contact with spring 11 until the switch is operated and then a part 13 serves to hold a rib 11a firmly against abutment 4a, an electric circuit is closed between contacts 10 by a spring-urged contact-plate 9 (and Fig. 2, not shown) carried by arm 8 and, when the appropriate turn is commenced, cam 14 rides over the end 11c of the spring so that on its return motion it can co-operate with part 11<SP>b</SP> of the spring.
