Abstract

1365073 Mechanical switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 10 March 1972 [20 March 1971] 7629/71 Heading H1N In an electric switch having an actuator such as a toggle lever 26, Fig. 1, movable to three positions, a contact arm 14 has spaced integral flanges 17a, 18a about which it pivots to move one or other of contacts 15, 16 at opposite ends of said arm 14 into engagement with fixed contacts 25 or 13 on the body 11. The arm 14 has pairs of integral triangular flanges 17a, 18a, Fig. 3, to form the pivots and has a central depression 19 for engagement by a spring-pressed plunger 24 on the lever 26 to retain the assembly in a detented central position. Projections 20 on each side of the arm 14 between the flanges 17a, 18a extend between projections 21 on the switch housing whereby longitudinal movement of the arm 14 is prevented. The lever 26 comprises a pair of arms 22 pivoted at 23 on the body 11 and may carry a pair of plungers 24 for engagement with a pair of parallel contact arms 14. In a modification the contact arm flanges (33, 34), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be rounded and the actuation lever may have a rigid projection (43), Fig. 4 (not shown), which engages a bowed leaf-spring (39) extending along the length of the contact arm to which it is fixed at each end. The bowed spring may also have central detent to locate the actuator lever (38) in its central position.
