Abstract
A composition, suitable after dissolution in water for descaling household utensils, pipes or industrial plant, comprises, by weight, 5-25 parts of one or more solid acids and 1 part of one or more solid inhibitors. Specified acids are sulphamic, citric, tartaric, malic, maleic, malonic, fumaric and glycollic acids. Specified inhibitors are ethylene diamine triacetic acid, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, hexamine, glycine, size, gelatine and isingiass. The composition may also comprise up to 1% by weight of a wetting agent, e.g. of the alkyl sulphonate type. Metals which may be descaled include aluminium, iron, steel, chromium and tin-plated copper.
