Abstract
895,367. Ventilators. HOSKEN, S. T. Feb. 21, 1961 [June 22, 1960], No. 21878/60. Class 137 [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] In a ventilator unit having a fan (not shown) driven by a motor 11 which is mounted within a casing 12 supported in a window 14, the flow of air is regulated by movable arcuate members 28 forming an iris diaphragm which opens, under the influence of centrifugal force, as the speed of the fan increases and is closed by springs 39 and 40 when the fan stops. A ring member 18 having a central boss 19, radial ribs 21, 22, 23 and 24 and an annular portion 25 is secured by a screw 20 to an extension 17 of the fan shaft, the portion 25 being provided with holes 26 which are engaged by pins 27 carried at the ends of the members 28. The other ends of the said members are attached by means of pins 37 to radial slots in the annular portion of a second, similarly shaped ring member 29 which is loosely mounted on the shaft 17. The springs 39 and 40 are secured between pins 41 and 42 mounted on the annular portion 25 of the ring member 18 and a flange 38 on the annular portion 35 of the ring member 29. An annular air ducting plate 15 and a protective disc 15 are provided at the inlet side of the fan, and the end of the shaft extension 17 is provided with a boss 43. In modifications (not shown) the springs 39 and 40 may be replaced by a helical spring mounted concentrically on the shaft extension 17 within the boss 43, one end of the spring being fixed to the boss 43 and the other to the boss of the ring member 29; the radial ribs of members 18 and 29 may be formed as fan blades and the existing fan dispensed with, and the members 18 and 29 may be mounted on either side of the motor 11.
