Abstract

694,127. Ventilating-fans. MINING ENGINEERING CO, Ltd. Oct. 4, 1951 foct. 27, 1950], No. 26305/50.. Class 137 [Also in Group XXVI] The delivery from a fan 1 of the type normally used for forcing air through a duct of varying length, for use e.g. in a mine, is controlled according to the length of duct used by adjusting the air flow which is available at the intake side of the fan. The fan 1, having a propellor 3 on a shaft 4, is mounted centrally in a casing 2, an extension 5 of the casing accommodating a pair of adjustable vanes 6, 7 mounted in the air-intake opening. The vane 6 is secured by pins 12 to a spindle 8, the other vane 7 being mounted on sleeve members 13 rotatable on the spindle 8. The latter and the lower sleeve member 13 extend through the casing 2 and are connected to levers 14, 15 which are pivotally connected by links 16, 17 to a bridle 18. The bridle 18 is connected to a screwed rod 19 passing through an adjusting nut 20 located between abutment faces 21, 22. on the casing 2. The vanes 6, 7 are cut away at 9, 10 so that on being fully opened they do not foul the cowling 11 of the propellor 3. The cut away parts 9, 10 also determine the minimum air flow required to cool the fan motor when the vanes are fully closed, Fig. 3.
