Abstract
1,009,295. Centrifugal fans. ROTRON MANUFACTURING CO. INC. June 8, 1964 [June 20, 1963], No. 23634/64. Heading F1C. [Also in Divisions E2, F2 and H2] A centrifugal fan has a tubular outlet of circular cross-section provided with a number of keys angularly spaced around its outer periphery by means of which the fan can be mounted on a support at its outlet in any one of a number of angularly spaced positions. The fan outlet having four keys 24, Fig. 4, is mounted to a support 38 having at least two key receiving slots 40. An air hose may be connected to the outlet. The fan housing, Figs. 4, 5 and 7, which is in two parts aligned by a pin and may be of plastics material, may be secured to a support (not shown) in any one of three angular positions by self-tapping screws engaging plain holes around the axial inlet 25, or by screws engaging threaded bushes received in holes adjacent the plain holes. Additionally, these screws may connect to the inlet an L- shaped bracket carrying an air hose. The fan may be supported in any angular position by clamps bolted to a support (not shown) and engaging a peripheral slot 64 in a base 50 cemented or press-fitted over an electric motor 46. When the fan is supported in this manner the housing 21 may be replaced or removed and not used. The assembly of impeller 47, motor 46 and base 50 is fitted to the housing 21 by passing three radial tongues 52 on the base 50 through cut-outs 32 in the inner periphery of housing flange 56 and then rotating the assembly relative to the housing 21 to sandwich the flange 56 between the tongues 52 and a peripheral flange 54 on the base 50. A flat resilient member 58 is secured to the housing 21, with cut-outs 60 aligned with cut-outs 32, by clips 59 and depressed portions which engage depressions 61 in the housing wall. Three raised portions 62 on the member 58 are, on relative rotation of the housing and assembly, engaged by the tongues 52 to secure the assembly axially. The assembly may be arranged in any one of three angular positions relative to the housing, for example for improving access to the motor leads. Pads 34 extending axially from the housing 21 are of such length as to engage notches 72 in the periphery of flange 54 and secure the assembly and housing against relative rotation, but are capable of being forced manually out of the notches to allow the flange 54 to ride over them.
