894,693. Incandescent furnace wall panels. HOLDEN, A. DE F. Aug. 3, 1960 [Aug. 3, 1959], No. 26823/60. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XI] In an incandescent wall furnace, a porous firebrick surface burner is supplied with gas and air from a plenum chamber and is surrounded by porous firebrick supplied with cooling air from a chamber adjacent the plenum chamber. Porous firebrick 16 forming a surface burner is fed with gas and air from a plenum chamber 14 through holes in the chamber wall and passages 17 in the firebrick. Cooling air from chambers 19 adjacent the plenum chamber 14 is fed through porous firebricks 20 similar to the burner brick 16. The panels of the burner wall are bounded by metal walls 11, separated by sealing gaskets 12, and the burner brick of each panel is divided into sections and from the cooling air bricks by sealing gaskets 21. The side-plates 11 of the panels are welded to channel-section members 10 to support the burner panels to form an incandescent furnace floor. The gaskets 12, 21 comprise aluminium foil 22 bonded by sodium silicate to an asbestos core 23, Fig. 4. In use, the aluminium foil is oxidized for a distance of up to 2 inches from the firing face. The gaskets form resilient joints to accommodate expansion of the firebrick, and prevent back heating at the edges of the panels.
