Abstract
894,205. Flow-boxes of Fourdrinier papermaking machines. KIMBERLY - CLARK CORPORATION. May 9, 1958 [May 13, 1957], No. 14929/58. Class 96. In a Fourdrinier paper-making machine, pulp is delivered by a fan pump 35, Fig. 1, from a mixing-tank 25 through a flow-spreader 43 and a conduit 45 to a flow-box 47 of the pressureforming type at the outlet of which is a slice 2, Fig. 4, the face 4 of which is, e.g., at an obtuse angle, e.g. 110 to 135 degrees, with the plane of the wire-cloth 5 and the thickness of the base 7 of the lip of the slice is, e.g., 1/16 to “ inch. The flow-box has a flow-control chamber 125 at the inlet of which is an adjustable throttle 129. The chamber may have an eccentricallymounted flow-control cylinder 127 about which some pulp circulates, other pulp being formed into a web on the wire-cloth 5 above the breast roll &c. which may be a suction roll. Some pulp may also flow backwardly beneath an apron plate above the breast roll. White water draining from the web on the wire-cloth may be caught by a tray 23 and returned to the mixing- tank 25. The upper part of the flow-box 47 is adjustably positioned and slides on the lower part with the aid of a gear-box 99 and a screw 96. The slice assembly 131 is also adjustable by a motor 189 and gear assembly 201. In modifications, the flow control cylinder 127 rotates, and it nearly fills the chamber 125 which is pivotally supported; or a pivoted vane &c. replaces the cylinder 127.
