Abstract

892,481. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 11, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1959], No. 4945/60. Class 112 [Also in Group XXV] A sewing machine presser bar is lifted by a lever 7 pivoted between its ends upon a stud 12 fixed in the machine frame 3, an opening in the lever having bearing engagement with a portion of the periphery of the stud and being spaced from the remaining portion of the periphery of the stud. As shown, the lever is horizontal and the stud is received in an open-ended slot 15 formed in the lower edge of the lever. A spiral spring 17 encircles the stud in a space between the lever and frame, the ends 18, 19 of the spring being secured to the frame and lever respectively to bias the latter clockwise. In a modification a renewable insert of self-lubricating material could be used at the bearing surface between the lever and stud. It is stated that the arrangement prevents seizure of the pivot in the absence of lubrication. Specification 504,610 is referred to.
