In a feed-off-arm machine having a pair of needles arranged abreast cooperating with a pair of verticalaxis rotary hooks, and a pair of bobbin-cases within the hooks, a pair of bobbin-case openers is arranged side-by-side within the feed-arm and adapted to engage the bobbin-cases at their sides remote from the free end of the feed - arm. The needle - driving mechanism, the feed-bar mechanism, and the method of driving the rotary hooks by shaft sections 104, 125, 123 arranged out of alignment, is that described in Specification 409,158. The lubricating system is that described in Specification 409,160. The hooks, which rotate clockwise, have each a body portion 73, Fig. 15, with a loop-seizing beak 74 and a needle guard 75. The left-hand bobbin-case 80 has a bearing rib 81 and a notch 82 which engages loosely a projection 83, Fig. 21, on the under-side of the throat-plate to restrain its rotation. The right-hand bobbin-case has a tongue 89, Fig. 16, which engages loosely in a gap between projections 91, 91<1>, for the same purpose. At the appropriate instants the bobbin-cases are shifted momentarily to open passages for the needle-loops by vibratory fingers 85, 93 which engage shoulders 84, 92 on the cases. These fingers are adjustable, and are vibrated through arms 113, Fig. 9, by forks 111 engaging eccentrics on the shaft sections 104. Their timing is different. The hook bodies are closed by strips 86 having loopcasting hooks 87. The bearing-blocks 98 in which the mechanisms driving the rotary hooks and the bobbin-case openers are mounted, are pivoted at one end 99, and are held at the other end by a slot-and-screw connection 100, 101, so that the rotary hooks may be adjusted laterally to suit different spacing of the needles.
