815,444. Sewing machines. PHOENIX NAHMASCHINEN AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, BAER & REMPEL. Oct. 29, 1956 [Nov. 2, 1955]. No. 32924/56. Class 112 Feed by dogs. In a lock stitch sewing machine of the type comprising a looptaker 1 rotating in a plane perpendicular to the direction of operation of the feed dog 31 and having a shaft 29 disposed in a driving gear housing 14, the feed dog is supported above the housing by transverse struts 30 connecting two carrier arms 28 which are pivoted to upwardly extending lever arms 27 on a shaft 26 and are disposed on opposite sides of and substantially parallel to, the looptaker shaft 29. In order to prevent sagging of the feed dog and torsional strain in the carrier arms, the forwardly projecting end of the inner carrier arm has a fork 32 which engages the lifting lever 34 at a point so spaced from the point of pivotal connection of the outer carrier arm with its lever 27 that, when viewed from above, the imaginary line joining these two points crosses the axis of the pivot of the presser foot (not shown) within the area of the feed dog. Frames. The bottom 10 of the base pan, on which is mounted the looptaker gear housing 14, is formed with an aperture 11, giving access to the drive gear 4 of the looptaker drive shaft 5, and an aperture 12 giving access to the looptaker.
