Abstract
891,423. Resistance heating elements. VOLEX ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS Ltd. Oct. 27, 1960 [Oct. 29, 1959], No. 36703/59. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] An electric heating circuit includes an electric heating cable for use as a soil heater or in a bath mat, including a central high resistance conducting element 11, Fig. 1, and two coaxial lowresistance elements 12 and 13 each separated by insulation 14, 14a, the conductor 12 being connected in series with the heating element 11, the conductor 13 being earthed, and the conductor, 12 is connected in series with fuse means 16, Fig. 2, to the live side of the power supply. The insulating layer 14a between conductors 12 and 13 is preferably ribbed on its outer surface as shown in order to allow the braid 13 to be tightly applied and to prevent relative movement between the insulation and the braid. An additional insulating sheath 15 may be provided. In modifications the braided conductors 12, 13 may be replaced by metal tapes or continuous sheaths and if preferred the outer braid element 13 may be in the form of a conducting plastic sheath.
