Abstract
764,657. Thermal switches. SUDDEUTSCHE KABELWERKE ZWEIGNIEDERLASSUNG DER VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. Feb. 11, 1955 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 4203/55. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXVI] Excessive heating in cable is indicated by a signalling system incorporated in the cable and comprising several conductors' and thermally-responsive means which produces a sufdden change in impedance between said conductors at any place along the system at which heating occurs. A shortcircuit may be formed between two of the signalling conductors 16, 17, Fig. 4, by means of a bimetallic coil 13 wound around a third, insulated, conductor 14, the conductors 16, 17 being bared adjacent the ends of the coil 13. Alternatively a V- shaped bimetallic strip 18, Fig. 7, may be supported by an insulating member 19 between bared portions of conductors 14, 16. In either case, excessive heating causes the bimetallic strip to contact the two bared conductors.
