Abstract
344,132. Transmission systems. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Ohio Brass Co. ; Mansfield, Ohio, U.S.A.) Jan. 9, 1930, No. 830. [Class 38 (iv).] Transmission conductor arrangements; protective arrangements.-In a transmission line comprising a support carrying an overhead transmission conductor and a ground conductor, and in which a ground lead spaced from the support extends from the latter conductor to the ground means are placed in the ground lead or the transmission conductor or on both where they approach closely to each other for minimizing the tendency to discharge between them. Such means include an increase in the effective diameter of one of them, are an insulating covering or guard interposed between them. The invention is particularly applicable with wooden supports. Insulated flux controls and conductor cages such as are described in United States Specifications 1,611,871 and 1,664,100 may be employed, the former being constituted by projections of conducting material with their ends covered by insulating material. Figs. 1 and 2 show an insulating covering 19, for example a porcelain or rubber tube, and insulated flux controls 20 on the ground lead 18, and insulated flux controls 21 and a conductor cage 22 on the transmission conductors 16. Various arrangements are illustrated in the specification. Fig. 4 shows a four-conductor circuit on two wooden supports. To avoid discharge to the ground lead 45, which may be brought from the ground conductors 37 either outside of or between the two structures, various devices are illustrated. The insulator supports and terminals of the insulator strings have flux control members 40, and the ground lead and its connection 38 have insulator or a cage 42, or the lead is coiled as at 46 to increase its effective diameter.
