A mill comprises a centrifugal wheel 8 for throwing material to be comminuted against plates 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of deflector shells 3, 10, the she 113 being rotatable in opposition to the wheel 8, and a frusto-conical guide 13 rotatable with the wheel 8 and forming, in effect, a continuation of an inlet opening 14, the inner edge of the guide being spaced from the rear wall of the wheel 8 to form an annular gap 16 through which the material can pass to a centrifugal chamber 17. The shell 10 is stationary and axially adjustable to vary the width of the annular outlet 11. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the shell 10 is omitted. The guide 13 may, alternatively, be stationary or rotatable independently of the wheel 8. Specification 704,954 is referred to.
