A machine for shredding plastic foam material comprises a rotor 30 and a stator wall 27 pro-' vided with shredding teeth 31, 32 respectively and defining therebetween a throat 42 of annular cross-section the outlet opening of which is adjustable, to vary the size of the shredded pieces of material, by means of a pair of pivotally-mounted plates 40 operable by handles 43. Material from a hopper 28 is drawn into the throat 42 by means of fan blades 26a housed in a chamber 16a provided with an outlet opening 36 for the discharge of the shredded material.
