To prevent choking a sieve 9 of a centrifugal mill, e.g. in grinding and crushing grain, fan blades 16 are arranged on the back of a rotatable plate 5 carrying beaters 7, the blades blowing additional air into a discharge passage 8 by an air passage formed by strips 13, 14, 15 placed on a partition 11 between the housing wall and the rotating plate. In operation, material enters the mill at 18 and is conveyed through the sieve and discharge passage by the heads of the beaters and the additional air detaches any material which forms on the back of the sieve.
