1,139,234. Comminuting grain &c. A. FRANCHINO, D. FRANCHINO and E. FRANCHINO. 19 Aug., 1966, No. 37154/66. Heading A2Q. [Also in Division A4] A machine for chopping and comminuting harvested grain and like material comprises a casing 1 through which passes a rotatable shaft 4 on which are keyed, at axially spaced intervals, a plurality of groups of members 7, 8 for supporting cutter blades 9, each member supporting a plurality of cutter blades, and the blades on the members of each group being angularly offset relative to those on the other groups. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the supporting members 7, 8 are equilateral triangles having bars 12a at each apex on which the trapeziumshaped blades 9 are seated. The blades are held against the faces of the supports by spacers 12 fitting over clamping pins 10, 11. The comminuted material passes through a semi-circular screen 3 into a collecting chamber 13, whence a suction fan 15 having an impeller 16 keyed on the shaft 4 discharges the screened comminuted material through an opening 18. Material is fed into the machine through a shoot 17, carried on an upper part of the casing, hinged to the lower part. A hinged door 19 controls the flow of material from the shoot. Foreign bodies are ejected from the machine through a spring-loaded door 20.
