Abstract

1,020,124. Comminuting by explosive action. FRANCIS H. CLUTE & SON Inc. April 9, 1964, No. 14686/64. Heading B2A. [Also in Division F1] Comminuting apparatus comprises a tube connected to the inlet of a centrifugal fan, the tube having a frusto-conical portion 106 in which comminution takes place by means of explosions between the particles of the material introduced into the end of the tube portion 108 remote from the fan. The material may be grain, ore, or oil-bearing seeds. The fan comprises curved vanes 74, secured to a hub 70 keyed to a motor-driven shaft 48. The hub, Fig. 4 (not shown), has secured thereto a cone deflector 126. Material introduced into tube portion 108 follows the paths indicated by the arrows 128, 130 and 132. A radially-adjustable cutting device 118 on the fan casing 12 cooperates with extensions 84 of the vanes to chop stalks.
