Abstract
891,183. Railway rail joints. ROY, A. P. Nov. 17, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No. 38913/59. Class 104 (2). In a railway rail joint a spring 6, provided with looped ends, is supported in a state of compression beneath the rail ends 1 by locking pins 7 supported in hangers 5, 5A suspended from fish-bolts 3A and the top plate 6B of the spring 6 is formed on each end at each side with upturned lugs to engage each side of the rail flange and with a downturned middle portion to embrace the spring 6. The heads of the fish-bolts 3A are bevelled and engage, with clearance, similarly bevelled holes in the hangers 5 so that when a load passes over the rail joint the hangers 5, 5A are forced downwards by the spring 6 and in turn press the fish-plates 2 against the rails 1. Iron or hard wood sphericalended wedges are driven between the sleepers 11 and hangers 5 to prevent rail creep. The spring 6 is inserted or removed by a clamp, Figs. 4, 4A (not shown).
