Abstract

Relates to penicillins of the general formula <FORM:0891174/IV (b)/1> in which X is a trivalent, straight or branched, aliphatic hydrocarbon group, or a phenoxyalkyl or an alkylphenoxyalkyl group, the alkyl compenent of which may be straight or branched, R1 is hydrogen, phenyl or phenoxy, and R2 and R3 are the same or different lower alkyl, aryl, aryl substituted lower alkyl, or together form with the N-atom, a ring system, such as piperidine, pyrrolidine, ethylene imine or morpholine, and non-toxic salts thereof. Typical penicillins of the above formula are diethylaminomethyl-, N - methyl - N - butyl - aminomethyl -, m - (diethylamino) - phenoxymethyl-, and a - morpholino-isopropyl-penicillin. The Specification refers to many others. The penicillins may be prepared by reacting 6-amino-penicillanic acid with the acid chloride, anhydride or mixed anhydride of the corresponding amino-carboxylic acid.
