Abstract

890,684. Two-part couplings. TUCHEL, U. March 25, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 9624/58. Class 38 (1). A socket designed to co-operate with a flat contact carrying plug member such as a plate portion 9 (Fig. 1) carrying a printed circuit is divided longitudinally into two moulded insulating parts 3, 4 or 31, 4<1>, one or both of which carry flexible contact members 6 or 61. The correct width of the plug-in slot in the socket is obtained by the spacing apart of the two parts 3, 4 or 31, 41 by the plate 1 or by special distance pieces 12. The contacts are mounted by inserting a shaped portion thereof in a cavity 22 (Fig. 2) provided in a reinforcement 21 on the socket body member (4<1>). The socket contacts have resilient tongues 23, 24 joined at one end and sub-divided by transverse slots 28. The ends 25 of tongues 23, 24 make contact with the conductors 10 printed on the plug-in plate 8 or 15 or with metal foil pieces placed over the ends of those conductors, bent round the end of the plate 8 or 15 and riveted in position. The socket contacts may have tubular legs 17 which fit in holes 11 in the circuit-carrying plate 8, the holes being bushed by hollow rivets connected to circuits printed on plate 8. The plug pins 17 project through the underside of plate 8 so that they can be soldered, e.g. by dipping.
