Abstract

1,015,124. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. July 25, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961], No. 28639/62. Heading H2E. A multi-contact flat connector plug intended to plug into a socket comprises a one-piece insulating carrier having a plug part 2 with metal contacts 4 between ribs 5, the end of part 2 being adapted for abutting a carrier plate 12 such as a printed circuit board having holes 11, and a shouldered extension 3 capable of being secured to plate 12 so that holes 11 receive the contact ends 8 enabling these to be soldered as at 14 to the conducting paths on plate 12. Extension 3 is secured to plate 12 by rivets through holes 7. Contacts 4 are secured in undercuts in ribs 5. There may be contacts 4 and extensions 3 on both sides of part 2 (Fig. 6, not shown). Slots, recesses and boxes may be provided on part 2 to co-operate with suitable parts in the socket to ensure correct coupling (Figs. 7, 8, not shown).
