Abstract
A semisilica refractory brick comprises, by weight, 50-70% washed quartz or ganister passing 28 mesh, 10-30% calcined kaolin (preferably Georgia kaolin) passing 10 mesh, 10-30% raw kaolin passing 20 mesh, 2-10% raw plastic fireclay (Missouri, Pennsylvannia, Kentucky, Colorado or Alabama fireclay) and optionally 0,25-1% bentonite. The powdered ingredients are mixed with 6% of water in a pugmill, tempered and fired in a kiln between cone 10 and cone 15. A preferred composition contains at least 45% by weight of particles passing 150 mesh. U.S.A. Specification 2,384,180 is referred to.
