Abstract

890,399. Jet rudders. INSTITUT FUR SCHIFFBAU. Feb. 11, 1959, No. 4765/59. Class 114. A jet rudder consists of an inlet channel 4 located deep below the water line and a propeller pump 3 the shaft of which is arranged either vertically or horizontally in the longitudinal direction of the ship and which delivers water through a central member pivotal about the pump axis into one or other or both of two outlet apertures 6 provided on each side of the ship in accordance with the position of the control member which includes a control cylinder 5 having an outlet aperture in its wall corresponding in size to the flow cross-section of the propeller pump, the outlet aperture extending over half the cylinder periphery and being provided with a half-ring-shaped guide plate 8, the control cylinder being divided by a vertical partition 14.
