Abstract
996,070. Stabilizing ships. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Dec. 22, 1961 [Dec. 24, 1960], No. 46093/61. Heading B7M. An installation for damping the oscillating movement of a ship includes tanks 2 and 3, connected by ducts 5, which are partly filled with a liquid 4, e.g. oil or water. Adjustable plates 6 are provided in the ducts 5 for varying the cross-sectional area of the ducts which plates are each supported at their adjacent ends by a nut 20 movable on a screw 19, and at their opposite ends on guide parts 12. The screws 19 are rotated by an electric motor 9 acting through a shaft 8, or by individual motor or manual drives. The surfaces of the liquid in the tanks may be subjected to variable air pressure. The movement of the liquid may be accelerated by a pump.
