Abstract
951,675. Cleaning ships' hulls. H. D. F. B. JOHANNESSEN. June 14, 1961, No. 21389/61. Heading B7M. A device for cleaning ships' hulls comprises rotatable brushes 10 and rotatable magnets 12 mounted in individual frames 11 and 13, respectively, so as to be capable of relative movement one to another. Bearings 24 of the frame 13 move in slots 26 in the frame 11 and springs 27 urge the brushes 10 into contact with the hull surface 31. A screw 29 adjusts the allowable movement between the two frames and compensates for wear of the brushes 10. The device may be steered by the magnets 12, which steering movement is controlled by the levers 44. The brushes 10 and magnets 12 are rotated from a common power source housed in a watertight compartment which may be used to adjust the buoyancy of the device. Provision is made for neutralizing the force emanating from the magnets 12.
