Abstract
1,199,939. Combined pusher and pushed vessel. E. IOZZA. 25 July, 1967 [26 July, 1966; 26 Oct., 1966; 31 Jan., 1967; 24 Feb., 1967; 12 April, 1967; 22 May, 1967], No. 34012/67. Headings B7A and B7S. [Also in Divisions F1 and F4] A combined pusher ship and pushed vessel has lateral axles in one of the craft and resilient deformable bearings on the other craft capable of turning on the axles. In the embodiment shown, cylindrical axles 3 extend sideways from the bow of pusher ship 1 to engage a set of elastic cylinders 4 secured to the sides of recesses 402 in beams 302 extending rearwardly from the stern of pushed vessel 2. Clamping members 8 in the U-shaped stern of the pushed vessel 2 grip the bow of the pusher ship. Elastic bearing members 5 and 7 also help to clamp and absorb movement due to pitching and rolling. Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown) indicate how to recover part of the energy transmitted to the resilient deformable bearings by the movement between the pusher ship and pushed vessel, e.g. to produce electrical power.
