Abstract

889,006. Press for attaching pronged articles. GRAFTON & SON Ltd., WALTER. Feb. 24, 1958 [Dec. 7, 1956], No. 37558/56. Class 89(3) A press for setting a pronged article 30, such as a hook or eye, on a garment 40, comprises a mandrel 24 arranged as a cantilever to support the garment, a die 25 on the mandrel for clinching the prongs of the article 30, a tool 8 arranged to support the article 30 and to be movable towards and away from the die, and a support 29 for the mandrel movable from a first position clear of the mandrel to a second position to support the mandrel. The support 29 is carried by an arm 27 pivoted at 28 and connected to the treadle mechanism which operates the plunger 4 which carries the tool 8. As the plunger 4 descends to clinch the article 30 to the garment the arm 27 moves the support 29 from the first position, shown in broken lines to the second position, shown in full lines. After the completion of the clinching operation and as the plunger 4 is lifted, the arm 27 returns the support 29 to the position shown in broken lines. The tool 8, which may be as described in Specification 889,007, automatically disengages from the article 30 when the plunger moves upwardly. A stay plate having apertures to receive the prongs of the article 30 is received by the die 25. Specifications 752,898, 756,553 and 799,173 also are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 788,480.
