Abstract

603,266. Pie-moulding machines. CAMWHEAT PIE MACHINE CO., Ltd., and CAMPBELL, C. R. Nov. 23, 1945, No. 31665. [Class 87(ii)] The male die 1 carries a relativelymovable collar 6 in which are a number of resiliently mounted plungers 11. In operation, the die descends from the position shown, the collar 6 descending with it (the springs 18 being insufficient to overcome the weight of the collar). First, the plungers 11 engage the rim of the pie-tin or the like, 19, to hold it steady, and force back the ring 16 against the springs 18. Then the protruberances 9 on the edge of the collar engage the rim of the tin, the collar thus resting on the tin. Then the die continues its descent, moving away from the collar, and moulds the dough, surplus dough being extruded through the gaps 10 between the protruberances 9, these gaps being narrow to ensure a sufficient thickness of dough being left at the edge of the pie for moulding by the serrated ring 4. The collar 6 is slidably retained on the die 1 by a setscrew 7. An air valve 3 is provided to break the vacuum when the die is withdrawn. In a modification the plungers 11 are pressed down by springs housed in the collar 6.
