Abstract
816,265. Moulding acoustic diaphragms. HAWLEY PRODUCTS CO. April 5, 1957, No. 11137/57. Class 87(2). An acoustic diaphragm made from accreted fibres or blanks of paper is formed with a neck by placing the diaphragm on a perforated male die 2 and moving a shaping member 7 downwards until the opening 41, Fig. 5 in the die ring 35 contacts the diaphragm. If the die is not exactly centred with respect to the diaphragm, it centres itself automatically, as the die is free to move laterally by means of ball bearings 34. After the die has centred itself, continued movement of the die causes the neck 45 to be shaped. The diaphragm may be held in place by applying vacuum to the perforations 49 in the die 2. The formed diaphragm may be removed by supplying air through the perforations 49. The diaphragm may be heated by a gas oven 57 which is shown in a raised position in Fig. 1 but is normally lowered to rest on the frame 11 carrying the die. The die may have a counterweight 55 or the cord 52 may be attached to a pneumatic piston. Specification 719,992 is referred to.
