Abstract
571,188. Moulding-machines. COLEMAN, C. W. Nov. 19, 1943, No. 19391. [Class 83 (i)] Patterns.-A moulding-machine having concentric plungers of which the larger G<1> is for jarring and the smaller G for drawing, is provided with a pattern plate D which forms the top of a box F and is perforated at S' so that air can be forced through said plate to assist in drawing the mould. Sand is supplied by a conveyer (not shown) to a box E having at an' intermediate point two flaps h<3>, Fig. 2, normally held in a horizontal position by springs Z. The box E is then swung about its pivot V to bring it into the position shown and by releasing air from the bottom of a cylinder R, a weight H is lowered onto the sand, pushing it into the bottom part of the box E and into the flask K, Fig. 1. Air pressure is then.admitted to the floating-anvil cylinder X to reciprocate the jarring plunger G\ columns A, B, pattern plate D, &c., and compact the sand. The weight is then raised by admitting air pressure to the bottom of the cylinder R and the box E is swung out of the way. Air pressure is then admitted to the box F and through the drawing plunger G into its cylinder which is the plunger G<1>. This causes the plunger G, plate G<2>, Fig. 2, and fingers G<3> to lift the flask K and mould from the pattern S. The flaps h<3> are held in either extreme position by the springs, but when the weight H is raised it engages lugs h<1>, Fig. 1, to bring the flaps into horizontal position again, ready for another charge of sand. Electric heaters T enable hot air to be blown through the holes S<1>. A duplex machine may be arranged in the same way.
