Abstract

776,919. Moulding-machines. VALYI, E. I. Dec. 5, 1955, No. 34862/55. Class 83 (1). A shell-moulding machine comprises a pattern-carrier having a pattern mounted facedown thereon, means for heating the pattern, a mould-mix container having a top enclosuremeans to enclose the space below said pattern, means forming a number of passages in said space below the pattern. and means for applying fluid-pressure to the mould mixture in said container for raising the mix through said passages into contact with said pattern for forming a shell thereon. The pattern 9 on the carrier 4 normally seats on the edge of a hot-air manifold 7. The mix container 6 is vertically reciprocable on a table 27 by a piston rod 30, into and out of sealing engagement with the manifold 7, and mould-mix may be blown from the container through riser-tubes 34, Fig. 3, under the influence of air from an intake 36. The container also comprises a blow-plate 37. A support 8 having spring-loaded support-pins 49 is movable on wheels 39 into the space between the pattern and the retracted container, and may then be moved upwardly by the container to support the formed and partially-cured shell 38 during its curing by hot air from the manifold. Thereafter the support 8 is lowered by the container 6 and simultaneously the mould is ejected from the pattern by pins 26 carried by an ejector plate 5 operated by a cylinder 21, and removed by the support 8. After removal of the shell from the support, the latter may be repositioned under the pattern 9, and a pattern-cleaning and parting solution is supplied through a spray on the support, from a tank 55. If necessary the pattern is then reheated by hot air from the manifold before removal of the support 8 and commencement of the next moulding-cycle. The pattern-carrier may be moved upwardly, e.g. to change patterns, by locking it to the ejector piston rod 19 by a pin.
