Abstract

723,902. Moulding-machines. HALLSWORTH, H. B. Feb. 12, 1953 [Feb. 12, 1952], No. 3636/52. Class 83 (1). A foundry moulding-machine comprises a rotatable table carrying a number of patterns, fluid-operated piston and cylinder mechanism for indexing the table from a loading station, where a mould box is fitted to a pattern, to a sand squeezing station and subsequently to an unloading station, all the operations being effected by fluid means interconnected with the indexing means so that sand filling, sand squeezing and mould removal take place simultaneously. The machine comprises an indexible table 10, Fig. 1, having four pattern plates 11 equally spaced thereon, a moulding box being fitted on at station A, sand-filling taking place at station B and sand-ramming and unloading being effected respectively at stations C and D. The machine is started by a valve F which opens a piston 132 in cylinder 13 to pneumatic pressure and starts the indexing movement of the turret in an anti-clockwise direction. As the piston moves a port 131 is uncovered to allow pressure to pass to a locking plunger 121 .which, in conjunction with stops 12 on the table, limits each table indexing movement to 90 degrees. The piston 132 subsequently controls a valve 133 which allows pressure to pass to the various pneumatic or hydro-pneumatic cylinders B 1 , C 1 , D 1 , for operation. The final movement of the piston 132 opens the cylinder 13 to exhaust and the piston returns for a repetition of the cycle of operations which continue until the valve mechanism F is manipulated to stop the machine. The table indexing mechanism comprises in addition a roller chain which passes around a free-wheel sprocket secured to a vertical spindle 14, Fig. 2, carrying the table 10. One end of the chain is connected to the piston 132 and the other end to a dash-pot 192 having pressure fluid admitted at 194, Fig. 1, to effect the return movement of the indexing year. One half of a moulding box 21, Fig. 2, is placed on a pattern plate at station A.and indexed to the sand-filling station B. Prior to reaching this latter station a pivoted rim 22 is brought down on to the top edge of the mould by cam and roller mechanism 26, 25. The box is filled with sand and moves to station 3 where the sand is rammed by a fluid-operated plunger 30. Finally the mould box reaches station D.where it is vibrated by a device 374 which comes into operation just prior to four upstanding rods 34 of a further piston and cylinder device engaging the underside of the mould box to lift it from the pattern plate. The rim 22 is pivoted into a vertical position free from the mould box at this station. The pattern plates 11 may be arranged so that succeeding top and bottom mould halves arrive at station D, thus enabling complete moulds to be assembled adjacent to station D.
