A shell-moulding machine comprises an oven, a mix container, a rotatable frame carrying at least two mould pattern-plates which, on rotation of the frame, are successively or alternately moved from a position adjacent the container to a position within the oven, each pattern plate being pivotally mounted on the frame so as to permit its movement to and from an inverted position over the container, and means for securing one of said patternplates to the container when in inverted position, so that the container can be swung with the pattern-plate about the pivotal mountings of the plate to deposit mould-mix on the plate. Two pattern-plates 7 are pivotally mounted on trunnions 8 on a rotatable frame T so that when one plate is in the oven F, the other, previously heated and adjacent the dump-box D, may be turned through 180 degrees to face downwardly, the dump-box raised by jacks 30 actuated by a pedal 34 to engage therewith, and clamps 41 applied. The assembly is then inverted about the trunnions 8 and, after a time interval, noted from a timer 36, returned to its upright position; the dump-box freed, and the frame T indexed to carry the pattern and shell to the oven for curing. Ejection of a cured shell is achieved by placing a board on the top of the dump-box and bringing the box, by means of the jacks, into engagement with the spring-loaded ejector pins. If production is halted, an electrically-heated hood may be placed over the pattern-plate which is not in the oven.
