581,302. Glass. BRITISH HEAT RESISTING GLASS CO., Ltd., and BROWN, A. S. Aug. 31, 1944, No. 16539. [Class 56] Relates to the moulding of knob handles on glassware, e.g. on the lids of casseroles. The lid 14 is pressed to shape between dies at one part of the machine so as to leave a protuberant lump 15, Fig. 3, at one side. The lid, still supported by the lower die member 12, is removed from the upper die and is positioned with the lump beneath a plunger 34 having a die 35 at its lower end. Levers 57 are pivoted to a sleeve 36 surrounding the plunger and moving therewith for a part of its motion. A cam 59 is carried by a plate 52 suspended by rods 51 connected to a plate 50 which is secured to the plunger During the initial downward movement of the plunger all three elements 34, 36, 52 move together until the lower ends of the levers 57 contact the lid at which time the movement of sleeve 36 is arrested by an adjustable collar 37 thereon contacting a shoulder 39 on a fixed guide 33. Elements 34 and 52 continue to move together somewhat further, the cam 59 now causing the lower ends of the levers to approach one another to support the portion of the lump which becomes the neck of the knob. The plunger continues its descent until the die 35 contacts with and expands the upper end of the lump so as to form an enlarged head above the neck supported by the levers 57 as shown in Fig. 4.
