888,770. Welding by fusion; making pressure vessels. THOMPSON (WOLVERHAMPTON) Ltd., JOHN. Dec. 10, 1958 [Dec. 10, 1957], No. 38427/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A metal structure, e.g. a pressure vessel, comprises a series of laminations 1 joined to a member 3 by forming oppositely inclined surfaces 4, 2 on the laminations 1 and the member 3 and making separate welds between each lamination 1 and the member 3. The welds are ground flat and examined before the next weld is made. The laminations 1 may be cylindrical or domed and the member 3 may be an annulus or a flange surrounding a branch pipe. Laminations may be welded to opposite faces of the member 3 and may constitute the walls or domed ends of a pressure vessel. As shown, the laminations 1 are superimposed on a cylindrical shell 1a welded by a U- or V-joint to the member 3. Specification 888,771 is referred to.
