Abstract

952,043. Making pressure vessels; welded joints. A. O. SMITH CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1962 [Dec. 22, 1961], No. 46219/62. Headings B3A and B3R. A pressure vessel has its wall formed by a plurality of concentric layers 7, 8 and its open end has threaded holes 10 for receiving fixing means 14 such as studs for the end plate 5. A weld deposit 16 may be applied to seal the ends of the sheet-metal laminations. The studs have a small thread angle, such as a modified square or buttress thread, Fig. 2 (not shown). The bottom of the vessel is closed by an end section 2, which may also be laminated, welded at 6. Vent holes 9 are provided in the layers.
