888,620. Vacuum packagings. CHRISTEN. SSON, O. V. Nov. 4, 1959 [Nov. 12, 1958], No. 37405/59. Class 94(1). Apparatus for vacuum closing lined packages 10 having a vent 19 in the closed end 20 of the lining comprises evacuation chambers with walls 25, 26, 27, 28, mounted on a turntable 24, a feeding arrangement 21 for introducing the packages into the chambers and welding means to close the vent. Each chamber is mounted on sliding bars 31, 32 and driven on rails 29, 30 round the periphery of the turntable by moving elements 33, 34. After the point of entry 49 of the packages the rails 29, 30 are raised slightly so that the top of the chamber is closed by contact with a disc 35, the fourth side of the chamber being closed by a circumferential wall 37. Valves 40 in the disc 35 are connected through conduits 41 to a vacuum source and are opened and closed by the passage of the leading wall 26 and the trailing wall 27 respectively below them. Evacuation takes place in several stages, the vent 19 being finally sealed by means of welding electrodes. Packages are ejected at 46. Specifications 888,621, 888,622 and 888,623 are referred to.
