816,313. Preserving foodstuffs in plastic containers by heating. KERKE, K. VAN DE. July 3, 1957 [July 14, 1956], No. 21006/57. Class 49. In preserving foodstuffs in a rigid container made entirely or partly of plastic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, by heating, in particular above 100‹ C., at least the flat portions of the plastic walls of the container are supported. A supporting surface may have a projection whereby the plastic wall of the container may be marked or opening of the container facilitated. In embodiments, containers are stacked on plates and the walls not in contact with the plates are supported by metal rings; single containers 10 (Fig. 5) are packed in boxes 8 of good heat-conductivity, provided with a lid 9 closed by a bayonet joint (not shown); containers are placed in basin-shaped depressions 13 (Fig. 6) on a conveyer belt 14 for passage through an oven 11, the free upper surface of the containers being supported therein by an endless belt 16.
