Abstract

888,223. Conveyers. HAMMOND MACHINERY BUILDERS Inc. July 2, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 22821/59. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] Articles are fed beneath an abrasive belt 6 by an endless conveyer band 12 of perforated construction on which the articles are held by a current of air passed downwardly through the band, the area of the perforations being substantially larger than the area occupied by the articles and so large in relation to the total area of the band that the articles are held on the band by the air flowing past the edges of the articles. The current of air is produced by a fan incorporated in a dust collector 21 connected to a chamber 16 below the belt, the collector 21 having a cyclone 23 to collect abrasive dust. The band comprises either a wire mesh belt or, as shown, a series of slats each having staggered rows of slots 14 which align with slots 25 in a plate 20 covering the chamber 16. Cleats 29 are provided on the band to retain the articles W in transverse rows.
