Abstract
819,499. Sorting solid materials. HINDS, G. A. Dec. 27, 1957 [Sept. 27, 1956], No. 29587/56. Class 117 A mixture of hop flowers and stems is carried by open mesh conveyers 10-12 and a paddle type conveyer 15 to an adjustable endless belt 16 which delivers it to two sets of smooth surfaced steel rollers 17 and 18. The rollers of each set lie in an inclined plane, are spaced apart, and rotate in the same direction so that the mixture is fed downwardly away from a central vertical plane and on to two further sets of similar rollers 19 and 20 which are spaced apart and lie in the same horizontal plane. The rollers in each of the latter sets rotate in the same direction and the hop flowers fall through the spaces between adjacent rollers and on to inclined endless belt conveyers 24, 25. The inclinations of the belts are adjustable so that the flowers roll downwardly on to conveyers 31, 32, and any stems which have also fallen between the rollers 19 and 20 cling to the belts and are delivered to a conveyer 30. Stems which do not pass between the rollers 19 and 20 are carried by them towards the central vertical plane and to a gap 21, and they also fall on to the conveyer 30. Hop petals which fall through the conveyers 10-12 are collected on a conveyer 14 and join the flowers on the conveyer 31.
