Abstract

592,230. Separating solid materials. B.A. COLLIERIES, Ltd., and HARDWICK, H. Oct. 4,1944, No. 18961. [Class 117] A method of sorting articles or material, especially coal, consists in conveying the material on a travelling conveyer past stations at each of which a deflector extends across the surface of the conveyer to discharge from it articles carried against the deflector, and urging selected articles across the conveyer into position to be carried against the deflector. The urging is done by attendants with some form of pushing tool. The apparatus comprises a rotatable table which carries the material past stations having deflectors 2, 3, 4 and 5. The attendants stand within the table at stations 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. The table is supported on rollers 20 and 22 and is driven round by a pinion meshing with a rack of teeth on the table.
