Abstract
357,751. Polishing pencils; conveyers. EHRHARDT, F., 11, Spenglerstrasse, Nuremberg, Germany. Sept. 9, 1930, No. 26917. [Class 146 (iii).] In a machine for polishing pencils and like articles of the kind provided with means for delivering the articles on to a drying-apron and thence conveying them back to the polishing apparatus for renewed treatment, an endless conveyer carrying pivoted counterbalanced elements is arranged to move vertically in front of and at right-angles to guideways along which the articles are delivered from and fed to the machine, the elements removing articles from the delivery guideway and returning them to the feed guideway. The articles are pushed from a hopper 2 through a polishing-apparatus 3 to drying-belts 5 which carry them to a wheel 9 provided with vanes and partly enclosed by a plate 7 so as to direct the articles to a second conveyer 10 supported by rollers 12 or a table 13. The conveyer 10 carries the articles to a guideway 14 formed by two spaced-apart L-shaped members. A standard 17 adjacent to the front of the machine carries rollers over which passes an endless chain 18 supporting at intervals shafts 20 on which are pivoted hoppers 19 normally held in vertical position by counterweights 22. During the upward movement, the hoppers pass into guideway 14 and carry any articles therein over to a guideway 15 constructed similarly to the guideway 14. The weights and the sides of the hoppers are bevelled in order to push the articles along the guideway 15 toward the hopper 2 and a conveyer 16 may be provided in the guideway 15. In order to reverse the articles for each passage through the polishing- apparatus, the hoppers 19 are rotatably mounted and are each provided with a gear wheel 23 adapted to engage a rack 24 carried by the upper end of the frame 17. In case any articles remain in the hoppers after passing the guideway 15, an abutment 25.is arranged to trip the hoppers, a second abutment 26 serving to reset them before they reach the guideway 14.
