Abstract
2-Amino-ethyl monophosphate is obtained by dehydrating the monoethanolamine salt of orthophosphoric acid by heating the salt in vacuo at a temperature higher than its melting point in the presence of an anhydrous sulphate of an alkaline earth metal which is defined as a Group IIa metal in the Periodic Classification, e.g. anhydrous calcium- or magnesium sulphate. In an example an aqueous solution of ethanolamine is neutralised with an aqueous solution of orthophosphoric acid at a temperature not exceeding 10 DEG C., solvent water is removed by heating and the fused salt is then heated in vacuo up to 165 DEG C.-170 DEG C. in the presence of anhydrous magnesium sulphate to form 2-aminoethyl monophosphate which is then dissolved in boiling water, filtered, and allowed to crystallise. U.S.A. Specification 2,730,542 is referred to.
