886,334. Applying sealing strips. UNION BAG-CAMP PAPER CORPORATION. April 22, 1960 [April 30, 1959], No. 14152/60. Class 73 [Also in Groups VIII and XVII] A closure at the end of a bag formed by folding over the end and securing the foldedover portion to the face of the bag (see Group XVII) is reinforced by a strip of tape 31 which has projecting ends turned over the side edges of the bag as described in Specification 886,335. The tape is cut to length by knives 32 and as it passes over a roller 29 has paste applied to it from a pan 33 through rollers 34a, 34b (or water if the tape is previously gummed). The lip of the bag has previously been folded to extend at right angles to the face of the bag and while in that position it is fed between the tape on the roller 29 and a paste roller 30a whereby the previously pasted tape adheres to the lip and paste is applied to the underside of the lip, Fig. 4. A plate 36 is then actuated, Fig. 6, to fold over the lip, with the tape 31, against the face of the bag, to which it sticks, the tape reinforcing the closure.
