[Also in Group XVII] In a method of producing wrappers, wrapping strips, receptacles such as bags and the like from one or more continuous webs of sheet material, a single web is folded or two or more webs are adhesively secured together, to form a double-walled structure which is flat throughout its width and open along two adjacent side edges, and a self-sealing adhesive is applied along exposed surfaces adjacent to the two open side edges in order that they can be sealed by pressing them together. As shown in Figs. 1 and la, a web 11 is folded so that the two edges lie adjacent and spaced apart; these edges are given strips of adhesive 12. In various modifications described the edges may be spaced further apart and the adhesive may be in discontinuous strips, the edges may be undulating or the edges may be folded again and adhesive may also be applied in strips 30, 31 at the centre (Figs. 5 and 5a) as well as at 28, 29 along the edges. The strips may be perforated or severed along line 23. Opaque strips may be gummed to the edges of a transparent web, and strips of adhesive applied to the edges of the opaque strips. Transverse strips of adhesive may also be applied when making bags or receptacles. The adhesive may be applied by one or more applications. The web may be passed through a heating zone and the strip may be severed or perforated transversely. A weak solution of gum arabic may be applied before the adhesive.
