Abstract

1,260,031. Packaging pads. BRITISH CELLOPHANE Ltd. 6 Aug., 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 39428/69. Heading B8C. [Also in Division A4] A hand pad 4 impregnated with a fluent material and enclosed within an envelope of impervious sheet material, e.g. polyethylene, is manufactured by attaching a series of pads to a travelling web 1 of heat-sealable flexible sheet material, impregnating the pads with fluent material from a printing applicator 5 before, during or after attachment to the web, applying a covering layer of sheet material over the pads, securing said layer to the web by transverse heat seals 10, thereby forming a series of connected envelopes each containing one pad, forming a slit opening or potential opening 13 adjacent to one edge of the envelope and severing individual envelopes from the web. The covering layer is preferably formed by folding over each longitudinal edge 6, 7 of the web 1. Each envelope may be turned inside out to form a mitten with the pad attached to the outside thereof (see Division A4).
